Welcome to Ebiya, a charming cafe nestled in the serene Kiso Valley in Nagano, Japan. This delightful tea house offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle, perfect for those looking to indulge in authentic Japanese cuisine.

At Ebiya, you’ll delight in their specialty, soba, crafted from high-quality buckwheat. Diners rave about both the hot and cold versions, with the cold soba receiving particular praise for its refreshing taste and perfect texture. Imagine sipping on a steaming cup of fragrant tea while savoring the slight nuttiness of the cold soba, enhanced by pickles that provide a delightful contrast in flavor.

Not to be missed is the café's exquisite selection of traditional sweets. You'll find seasonal offerings such as chestnut treats that are as beautiful as they are delicious. As one customer, Miss Peacock, mentioned, "We tried the chestnut as well and it was delicious." It's this level of freshness and artistry that makes Ebiya a true treasure in Kiso.

The atmosphere is intimate and welcoming, thanks to the warm-hearted owner who greets guests with genuine hospitality. As noted by customer Sally Lee, the owner not only speaks a bit of English but also shares her knowledge about the food and dining etiquette, which enhances the overall experience. You can feel the love and care she puts into her cafe, creating a nurturing environment that feels like home.

Customers often leave Ebiya enchanted not just by the food, but by the atmosphere and the heartfelt service. Je Ladisla shares, “The auntie/owner is very friendly and accommodating, making the good food even better.” Each visit to Ebiya feels like a personal journey into the heart of Japan's culinary heritage, paired with a touch of local charm.

Whether you’re a traveler looking to immerse yourself in local flavors or a resident searching for a cozy spot to unwind, Ebiya is the perfect destination. It is not just a meal; it is an experience that lingers in your memory long after you’ve left. Make sure to stop by during your exploration of Nagiso and let Ebiya’s delightful offerings brighten your day.

We wanted to try some local cuisine in this place. One of the few places which was open in the evening and was almost about to close. This place is located in the quiet place of Kiso valley. The shopkeeper explained us the different flavors of the sweets available and what they were made from.

Lovely tea house that serves one of the best soba I’ve tasted We tried the chestnut as well and it was delicious. We bought a box home and sadly it doesn’t last more than a week. Otherwise I’d have bought more!

A cute Japanese tea house which serves tea with sweets and Soba(buckwheat noodles). We ordered both hot and cold soba, enjoyed them very much, especially the cold soba, very tasty! The owner is an old lady and her son(the chef, I guess). The old lady speaks a bit English, she is very patient and lovely. She showed us the way to eat cold soba. :) brought us tea and pickles as well :) Btw, they have menu in English, including explanations of the sweets and types of tea they have.

I completely agree with other reviews about the udon here - the broth and noodles are both incredible, and I think the best I had in my travels in Japan. A lovely older lady was very helpful and patient when I was trying to order in English, and also gave me tea for free. Proper traditional tatami flooring as well - a perfect cosy Japanese teahouse vibe. Highly recommend!

Excellent soba in a calm restaurant with great service. We also enjoyed their matcha and local sweets. Would highly recommend for a lunch in Tsumago.

The auntie boss is friendly and the hot soba is super good. The broth is really yummy, one of the best I have ever had. I finished to the last drop. The meal is especially comforting after the walk from magome in winter.
